.KEY MESSAGES...
* Breezy north in the Colorado River Valley today and tomorrow
will make for choppy waves on Lake Mohave and Lake Havasu.
* A significant warming trend will continue through the next week
with long-standing March heat records likely to be broken
across much of the Western US by the end of the week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...through next weekend.
Northerly upper-level flow will bring windy conditions to the
lower Colorado River Valley through Monday. 15 to 25 mph
northerly winds with gusts up to 40 mph will occur during the
afternoon hours. These breezy winds will make for hazardous
boating conditions with choppy 1 to 3 foot waves expected on area
lakes. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect through Monday evening.
Breezy conditions will continue on Tuesday, but winds should be a
bit lighter than on Monday.
Hot temperatures will be the big story for the next week. Monday
will start out "only" about 10-14 degrees above normal and temps
will only increase from there. Strong high pressure is beginning
to build into the western CONUS and will amplify through the
week. As a result, temperatures will increase each day, peaking at
around 25-30 degrees above normal toward the end of the week. By
Wednesday, Las Vegas will have high temperatures in the mid-90s.
The record high for Las Vegas in the month of March is 93 degrees
set March 26 of 2022. As of the current forecast, there is a
greater than 90% chance of exceeding that record each of the days
Wednesday through Sunday. Many daily and monthly record high
temperatures are likely across the region this week. These hotter
than normal temperatures will yield widespread Minor-to-Moderate
HeatRisk (Levels 1 and 2 of 4) across southern Nevada,
southeastern California, and northwestern Arizona. An Extreme Heat
Watch has been issued for Death Valley National Park, the
Colorado River Valley, and portions of San Bernardino County for
Wednesday through Friday. The Extreme Heat Watch will be expanded
to include the Las Vegas Valley, southern Clark County, and
southern Mohave County for Thursday and Friday. Those without the
chance to acclimate to the heat (i.e., people traveling to the
Desert Southwest from out of town for Spring Break), heat
sensitive individuals, and people without access to adequate
cooling or hydration will be the most at risk for adverse heat
related impacts and should take proper precautions to minimize
their chances of being negatively impacted by the heat. Some
examples of preventative measures include, but are not limited to:
wearing loose, light colored clothing, wearing sunscreen, and
taking extra care to remain hydrated.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Winds
will diminish quickly through sunset, becoming light and variable
overnight before settling out of the southwest prior to daybreak.
By mid morning, winds veer to the northeast and increase to
8-10KT, with these winds persisting through early evening before
again becoming light and variable. FEW-SCT clouds with bases
between 15-25kft are expected through the period with VFR
conditions prevailing.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Gusty northerly to
northeasterly winds will diminish quickly this evening with the
exception of the Lower Colorado River Valley, where terrain
enhancement will maintain gusts to 15-25KT on at least an
intermittent basis through tonight. Winds at KEED and KIFP will
increase by mid morning Monday, with gusts to around 30-35KT
expected thereafter. Elsewhere, winds are expected to remain
around 5-10KT tonight onward, settling out of the east to
northeast by early Monday afternoon. VFR conditions will prevail
with FEW-SCT clouds around 25kft.
